Scalability of fun
August 14, 2006 on 3:46 pm | In Uncategorized | 3 CommentsI have been thinking about how fun and economy intersects in a different way in the virtual realm. I have wondered if you could argue that fun scales better because of the different nature of scarcities in SL. Lemme elaborate after the click.
A case study
August 11, 2006 on 2:47 pm | In Uncategorized | 1 CommentI have entered the final phase of this project. Sadly my time in SL has become scarcer, because of the need to get some words down on paper. With writing up my thoughts came the challenge of how to best present my thoughts. An obvious approach is to look for precedence, but Second Life has a number of unique features and that makes these hard to find. I have decided a good way to make some of my points easier to understand is to establish some concrete things to talk around.
These thoughts lead me to do a case study that I feel highlight a number of interesting things in SL. The specific study is on the International Space Flight Museum, because I feel that this forms a good foundation for my ramblings about SL. This is beta 1 after my first write-through, so enter at your own risk

Thinking about identity
August 2, 2006 on 2:57 pm | In Uncategorized | No CommentsOnline Identity: some thoughts is a really interesting article I just read. I have been thinking a lot about the role the strong emotional attachment we feel to our avatars and how much of a sense of presence you feel when you meet people in SL. This is really one of the ways I believe that SL augments the web in interesting ways.
